Kick Butts Day is a day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco at more than 1,000 events planned by independent organizers across the United States and around the world.
All community members are encouraged to attend this evening of open respectful dialogue with our Burlington teens. The night will include:
-Education from community experts about key
issues such as e-cigarettes, marijuana and prescription
drugs.
-New data from OUR VT youth high risk behaviors
and community strengths
-Conversation with BHS teens about issues they
face such as peer pressure, school climate, stress,
drugs and alcohol and more.
-Opportunity for dialogue about how to address
high risk youth issues
We hope you will join SAMHSA’s continuing efforts to raise awareness about mental and/or substance use disorders by planning a NPW 2016 event in your community! This year’s theme—Strong as One, Stronger Together—recognizes that one person can make a positive difference in their community, but when we all unite together we can achieve even more.
Six of the 7 days during NPW 2016 have a suggested theme:
· Prevention of Tobacco Use – Monday, May 16
· Prevention of Underage Drinking & Alcohol Misuse – Tuesday, May 17
· Prevention of Prescription & Opioid Drug Misuse – Wednesday, May 18
· Prevention of Illicit Drug Use & Youth Marijuana Use – Thursday, May 19
· Prevention of Suicide – Friday, May 20
· Promotion of Mental Health & Wellness – Saturday, May 21
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will hold its 12th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way of disposing of unneeded prescription drugs. More than 6.4 million pounds of medication have been collected over the last eleven Take Back Days in the US.
