Cannabis is the most widely used illicit drug among youth today and is more potent than ever. The chances of our kids encountering cannabis in their tweens and teens have only increased with the passing of Act 164, the new law that allows retailers to sell cannabis starting in October 2022.
Teens and young adults are especially susceptible to the negative effects of any drug use, including cannabis. Evidence has shown that cannabis use can lead to cognitive and psychiatric problems, impede academic success, and diminish well-being.
This ParentIN sponsored presentation with child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. David Rettew, an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, will inform parents about the research, trends, and myths related to cannabis use so they can feel prepared and comfortable to talk about this issue with their kids. Dr. Rettew will also introduce his new book, Parenting Made Complicated, which was released this month.
